Summer by Arcimboldo Giuseppe
"Up close, this painting looks a greengrocer's dream. Moving away from the picture, a human head emerges. It has been made entirely of the fruits and vegetables of summer- pears, peaches, cherries, and plums can all be found. While Arcimboldo often used fruits and vegetables to create his portraits, he was also known to use pots, pans and even workmen's took to create is weird images. His most important work were painted in Prague, where he was employed by a series of Hapsburg emperors."
"Arcimboldo had other coutrly duties besides painting, such as designing decorations for festivities, purchasing works of art for the Emperor's collection and, strangely enough, designing and constructing waterworks. Arcimboldo's paintings were looked upon as slightly silly, although they were imitated often enough. It was not until the Surrealists recognized a fellow artist who loved visual puns that he became popular. "
